TALK
Traditional media vs. CGI:
Grabbing the best of both
worlds
This talk explores how 3D animation is embracing the charm of traditional media like comics, illustration, and 2D animation in innovative ways. Using examples from Love, Death & Robots and Tales of Runeterra, we see how CGI merges nostalgia and modernity, creating visually striking and emotionally engaging stories.
BRAM SELS
Bram Sels grew up on Franco-Belgian comics, punkrock and 90s cinema. Bitten by the creative bug in primary school, he was always visualizing stories, drawing his own comics and creating his own versions of Magic: The Gathering playing cards.
His lifelong passion became his craft and, in due course, he landed roles as a visual development artist for Animal Logic, ReelFX, The Neuland, Psyop and Ubisoft, an illustrator for Magic: The Gathering, and an art director for Axis Studios.
At Axis, Bram works closely with the directors and helps to develop their visual language and identity, guiding the design of everything from environments to characters to colorscripts. He’s art directed several award-winning projects, including three episodes of Love, Death and Robots and Magic: The Gathering’s War of the Spark trailer.
What attracted you to KIND OF ART?
“I was invited to Kind of Art by Jesper Sølling Andersen, who I've met a long time ago at Industry Workshops.“
What are you looking forward to at KOA?
“The connect to artists and put some faces to the names behind the art we see and admire daily. It's good to connect to your fellow colleagues, to talk shop and be reminded that at its heart this is a people-driven industry.“
Thoughts on Convergence?
“I think it's a really interesting topic that could probably sum me up as an artist myself too. I've never been one to repeatedly use the same technique or approach and am constantly looking for ways to do things smarter, better, different.“
